Transfer of Credits for Courses Taken at Domestic/International Universities

Grades (credits) from other domestic or international universities that have signed a credit exchange agreement with Korea University may be accepted.

Rules and Limitations for Transferring Credits

  • Course credits and grades from other universities are accepted if they do not substitute course credits and grades from Korea University.
    However, courses can be substituted according to the student’s needs for major-required or major-related electives or general elective course credits.
  • The credit conversion rate is 1:1 for courses taken at domestic universities. Since the credit system at international universities is usually different from that of Korea University, a credit conversion standard is applied.
  • Grades (credits) from other universities are not included in the calculation of one’s GPA, but are included in total credits.
  • Total credits and the approval for courses taken at other universities are determined by the affiliated department (school/division).
    In the case of transferring credits, the number of course credits from other universities must be equal to or higher than that of the substituted course at Korea University.
  • Credits from other universities cannot be transferred arbitrarily by students. Except for courses with an F grade or equivalent and audited courses, credits from all courses are accepted by Korea University.
  • Courses taken at Korea University cannot be retaken at other universities, and courses taken at other universities cannot be retaken at Korea University.
  • The following courses should only be taken at Korea University:
    • Required general education courses
    • Core general education courses
    • Teacher training courses, Principles of Curriculum and Instruction, Thinking and Writing in Education, and Material Development and Teaching Methods
  • At least one half of the credits in a student’s major (including second major, minor, and dual major) required for graduation must be taken at Korea University.

Approval of Credits

  • Within the first semester, click KUPID > Registration & Graduation > Grade Inquiries > Transferring Credits from Other Universities and select current academic status.
  • After confirming personal information that appears on the screen, enter necessary information in the approval section, such as course titles and grades. If a student wishes to substitute a course, select course substitution.
  • After submitting the required information, click the “Final Submission” button and print out the application form for the approval of credits from other universities.
  • Fill out the application form for the approval of credits from other universities (including the information on course fulfillment and course substitution) and submit it to the administration office of the affiliated department with the approval of the department chair, along with relevant documents, including transcripts and grading scale of each university.

 In the case of applying for the approval of credits in a student’s double major or interdisciplinary major, the documents should be submitted to the department’s administration office of the student’s first major, with the approval of the department chair or advisor.
